Every bride dreams of her wedding bouquet stunning the guests and being a beautiful complement to her gown! But did you know there are several old superstitions surrounding bridal bouquets?
First of all, many Poles believe that wedding flowers should never be dried, as this is believed to “dry out” the marriage and bring an end to the relationship.
It’s also important to keep in mind the symbolism of colors and flower varieties. Although yellow flowers brighten up any arrangement beautifully, they traditionally symbolize betrayal, so it’s best to avoid it in the bridal bouquet. Crocuses are said to suggest doubt about the sincerity of feelings, while daffodils are associated with selfishness and self-absorption. On the other hand, carnations, asters, and freesias are considered lucky choices.
Another belief warns against decorating the bouquet with pearls, as they are thought to bring tears. Interestingly, even roses — one of the most popular wedding flowers — have their superstition: their thorns are said to “wound” love.
Equally important is who creates the bridal bouquet. For a happy marriage, it should be made with true heart and dedication, but never by the bride herself.
Of course, all of these superstitions are best taken as charming curiosities — and with a pinch of salt!
